So tomorrow is the start of the trout season and, as feared, sleet, hail and heavy rain have been battering the rivers. It won't be the early open to the season I had hoped for since most of the small streams will be heavily in spate and resembling chocolate - instead of the 'tea-stain' colour that help all the promise last weekend.

So sit back, tie a few flies, enjoy the Easter break and remind yourself of what a spring day on the river should look like!

Just walked the dog and the local brook is running clear. The local forecast for Sunday is 11 degrees and sunny intervals. Too good to miss. Unfortunately, I am out on duty visiting.

Just back from my morning constitutional and the brook is up a foot and coloured after the overnight rain, with another band coming through. It looks like showers tomorrow but dry Sunday, Monday and Tuesday with a stiff SSW breeze.

I would love to take you up on your offer, I have an easy work schedule for the next 2 months, whcih makes life a bit better, especially with the Monnow social coming up.
