Hi Dave, can I just ask, what are your views on putting a couple of turns of wire on the bend of the hook to cock it. Does it present the energer any better or not do you think? cheers
Personally I do not bother. The weight of the hook, especially with such a simple pattern as this, will be enough to take the body through the surface film and allow it to sit correctly. However, if you're using a rather more 'messy' body with longer gurad hairs, a wire rib is useful. I have been using Hends wire recently - the finest diameter wire I have seen - and pefect for dries.

Dave,
I bought the synton thread frim Irish fly tying and see that they sell HENDS wire too, do you recommend the 0.008 or 0.019mm?
thanks
Peter
Peter,
The 0.008 is the one I have been using... but be warned, it is very fine!

Magic Dave! Life's complicated enough, stripped to the bare essentials this fly is a real treat to see.
Best,
Andy
I haven't stopped by in a while and just wanted to see what you've been up to. Glad to see you've been getting some stream time.
Beautiful & delicate little pattern Dave. I can see this being a charmer on difficult days.
